Great book to learn the secret trade of Kenny G

This book shows how Kenny G transformed a very simple song into a powerful song that steals a lot of people's heart. I agree with a lot of musicians that Kenny G harmonic and melodic vocabulary was extremely limited, mostly to pentatonic based and blues-lick derived patterns. But I want to learn the secret trades that makes a lot of sax player jealous fueled by the fact that he sells an enormous amount of records while not being anywhere near a really great player in relation to the standards that have been set on his instrument over the past sixty or seventy years.

The transcription of the songs are pretty accurate and the author played the soprano sax pretty well to mimic Kenny G Sound.

Musical Critique, Ponderous Puffery, or Hogwash?

Kenny G is a great musician, but this book is a big disappointment. It shows brief musical passages, but it doesn't show the complete songs.
For example, Example 1 "Songbird", Example 2 "Silhouette", and Example 3 "Forever in Love" are on page 5. Example 4 "Going Home", Example 5 "Morning", and Example 6 "Silhouette" are on page 6. Examples 7, 8, and 9 "Songbird" are on pages 7 and 8 and include some theoretical discussion as well as a lot of ponderous puffery.
Why are the songs chopped up like this? I believe it was so the author could critique specific sections in a way that he felt was more understandable. A much more standard method would have been to present each song in its entirety and then refer back to specific passages. For example, "Measures 22 through 30: The melody soars to a high climax before easing up and falling back to mid-range".
Also, the examples on the CD are abruptly cut short (very short!), which is irritating.
This book may be useful as an in-depth study of the author's interpretation of Kenny G's music, but not much use if you're trying to learn the songs from start to finish. I gave this book 2 stars (instead of 1 star) because I thought some Kenny G enthusiasts might find the critiques interesting and may realize some value from the interpretations made by the author. I personally think much of it is hogwash.
I recommend the "Kenny G - Breathless" songbook along with the CD of the same name. Also at the top of my list is "Kenny G - the Moment" and the CD of the same name. If you're into standards, I recommend "Kenny G - Classics in the Key of G" and the CD of the same name (most of the songs are actually in the key of G if you're playing Bb sax - which means that concert pitch for most of the songs is F). All these songbooks include score (sometimes with piano) and also include a special pullout section for Bb instruments. A couple of songs are transcribed to Eb for alto saxophone instead of Bb.
A songbook worth mentioning is "The Best of Kenny G". It also comes with a special pullout section for Bb instruments. Unless you're already familiar with the songs from "The Best of Kenny G", you need to purchase the "Kenny G - Greatest Hits", "Silhouette", "Duotones", "G-Force", and "Gravity" CDs to listen to the tunes.

About the Author
Prof. Mooli Lahad, PhD, is a senior medical and education psychologist, professor of psychology, and director of the MA studies in Dramatherapy at Tel Hai College, Israel. He is also the founder and president of the Community Stress Prevention Center (CSPC). Prof. Lahad is one of the world's leading experts on community and public behavior, and coping with disasters. He has served as a consultant to the Israeli National Security Council and the Ministries of Education, Welfare, Homefront, Defense and Health. Following the 9/11 World Trade Center attack he trained community workers, first responders, mental health staff and medical care teams in New York and New Jersey. He served for many years as a consultant to UNICEF and is a former member of the NATO committee on psychosocial preparedness to disasters. He developed the “BASIC Ph” integrative model of resiliency. Dr. Miri Shacham, PhD, is a senior educational counselor, lecturer and researcher of psychology and education at Ort Braude College, Israel. She is also a psychotrauma researcher at CSPC. Dr. Shacham served for many years as a trainer and consultant to school managers in the Ministry of Education advising on preparedness and coping with terror and war situations. She also developed school programs enhancing teacher and pupil coping resources for trauma after the Second Lebanon War. Dr. Ofra Ayalon, PhD, is a psychologist and family therapist and an expert on working with trauma. She is a renowned author and trainer throughout the world in the field of trauma and coping with crisis and disasters. She retired from Haifa University after 35 years of teaching and research and she is currently the director of the Nord COPE Center in Tivon, Israel. Her career as a trainer and consultant has spanned many organizations, such as UNICEF in Former Yugoslavia, Finland's Red Cross, Center for Crisis Management and Education in the UK among others.

I bought this for my little sisters. I used the 2011 edition of Barron's when I took the Spanish AP exam six years ago, and they've updated the book accordingly. It includes ample practice questions, grammar breakdowns, and a condensed section of verb conjugation in the back. There's a reason I swear by Barron's for AP prep-- they're easily the best in the business.

The content of this book is okay, but the cost is unreasonable for a thin paperback. Due to the cost, I plan on turning it back in for credit but due to the construction, it doesn't hold up well at all. It should be more like $45.

One of the best books on all things instructional design that I have read

This book is an overview of the field of IDT. It is a must have for the bookshelf of every instructional designer and one of my all time favorite IDT books. If you are looking for a how to manual or guide this is not it, but if you are an instructional designer and want to understand your field better, you will enjoy this book. I have a large assortment of IDT books, but I know that this one will be one of the best research references that I have.

Beautifully written...

The prologue reminds us of the events of 1918, there was war, poverty, and the Spanish Influenza. The setting is rural Indiana. Jenny Clark is a widow with four young children to raise and another on the way. Her husband had been a tenant farmer for Elmer Vance, with Owen’s death came the uncertainty of where they would live. Elmer needed a new farm hand and he would need the farm house. Jenny wrote to her sister but little help was coming from there. Adine and Harold were willing to take the boys but not the girls. Life for women in that era wasn’t easy. They were meant to raise children. But how without a husband?

I have tried to be careful not to give away too much of this tale in writing this review. There is so much more I want to say concerning the plot. The characters were very well developed. I liked Elmer, Jenny and even Edith. I found Adine and Harold to be self-centered and repulsive. A woman had little to no chance in this world without a man. We also tend to forget that women of that era had physical needs and feelings. The Prairie Farmer is a small book with a mere 94 pages but each page is filled with much emotion. I feel a warmth in my heart for The Prairie Farmer. My only criticism is the prologue. The history of the period can be a little dry and drag a little. I realize it is an important part of the book for it explains Owen’s death but I would have like to have seen a different approach. Having said that I highly recommend The Prairie Farmer written by author, Ann Alexander. This short tale will make a great book study or just read it for entertainment but please read it.

The second book in the Stonebrood saga is an intriguing and erotic paranormal tale with unique elements that make for a refreshing change.

Riley wants answers about her parents, so when she is yanked out of Pittsburgh and coaxed to New York by the only two people who know anything, she finds she must face a powerful enemy, one who not only killed her parents but were the best demon hunters of their time. Damian and Nicholas are former lovers who are brought together by a promise made to Riley’s mother to protect Riley.

This fast paced and smooth flowing plot is brought to life by vivid imagery that captures the reader’s imagination as makes it feel as if they are actually a part of the story. There is lots of action, suspense, romance, two hot alpha vampires and lots of steamy sex that scorches the reader. The explosive multiple sex scenes include MMF, MM and anal sex play, mental sex games, use of sex toys and frank sexual language.

The chemistry between the three radiates heat from every page and the author conveys all the emotions and sex scenes with an intensity that engages the reader’s emotions and makes it easy for them to relate to the characters. All the characters are compelling with lots of charisma that grabs the reader’s attention and keeps it to the very end.

This author does a fantastic job of creating fascinating paranormal worlds with lots of intriguing and unique elements that keep the reader entertained from beginning to end and have them coming back for more. I have yet to be disappointed by one her books and this one is no exception.
I found this story to be an wonderful and wicked erotic read that created heartfelt emotions, suspense building twists and turns, and such enchanting characters that I did not want the story to end.

Erotic paranormal romance

This is an erotic ménage paranormal romance with all the trimmings: sex toys, a little bondage, a little anal and all the games that three people can play… Yeah, it’s that kind of book – so if that sort of stuff [and the language that goes along with it] bother you – stay away!

The heroine is Riley, a somewhat battered survivor of the foster care system, who is suddenly confronted by two men who claim to be there at the request of her parents, the parents she knows nothing about. Of course they aren’t really men but vampires who knew her parents – make that her killed-in-the-line-of-duty demon-hunting parents. Yeah, she’s shocked too. They coax her to New York with them with promises of information about her family. Their goal is to train her and have her help them kill the gargoyles that killed her parents.

Admittedly everybody has issues in this book: Riley with being left to the foster care system, Nicholas with his walls around his heart, and Damien who wants to heal the breach with Nicholas and perhaps for them all to be together… For an action based plot there’s a huge dose of relationship going on. There are definitely some hankie moments.

The sex scenes are well written, the relationships are intense, and the plot kept me going. This is the second book in the Stonebrood series. I haven’t read the first one – Carson's Night – which didn’t seem to be a problem. All in all a good read-once.

Sexy Saga Continues at Full Speed Ahead

WOW!!! Tracy has done it again. The story is a great read even if you haven't read the first in the series, "Carson's Night", but of course if you have it's even better. The two male characters are just as sexy and hot as ever and the new female character fits right in. If you don't like paranormal romance with steamy sex, do not pick up. Trust, love, sex and revenge all in one package. Loved it. Can't wait for Tracy to put out the third in the series
