The results should also help clinicians recognize potential problems early in analytic treatments so that they can work more effectively with patients.

Paul Jackson has been a professional paper folder and paper artist since 1982 and is the author of more than 30 books on paper arts and crafts. He has taught the techniques of folding on more than 150 university-level design courses in the US, Germany, Belgium, the UK, Canada, and Israel. These include courses of Architecture, Graphic Design, Fashion Design, Textile Design, Jewelry, Product Design, Packaging, Ceramics, Industrial Design, Fine Art, Basic Design, and Interior Design. If you work with sheet material such as paper, cloth, metal, or plastics, Paul Jackson is happy to show you what it can do. And you will be happy to learn that it can do more than you thought. "Complete Pleats" presents the possibilities in Jackson's visually clean style. He explains every step,building from the simplest fold to "accordion across knife" and "twists in combination". The diagrams give you an immediate sense of what is required, and the photos show you an excellent version of the technique. As soon as you start folding a new lesson, you will notice how the material responds, how it works, and you will think that this could lead to something really cool. You will be right.

It looks like a book, but it is really a diving board. Mr. Jackson invites you to launch yourself and your projects with fresh energy and possibilities. I have some of his previous books. I expect this one will become as traveled and worn as the others. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I do.

Fantastic!

This was my first read of Lise Horton's work but I loved it and I'm now a fan! It had my attention from the start and never bogged down in descriptive chaff to fill a page. Nothing was wasted and the story quickly gets to the point. The author's writing style is fast paced, punchy, and intelligent. From a simple beginning the characters were developed into real people with real feelings, as Eden and Hud worked out what they wanted, and who they wanted it with. Hold Tight promised a lot of hot action between two hot characters and I wasn't disappointed. Not a bit! I loved the main characters and the sex scenes was fantastic. But this is not just a book about Eden and Hud. The supporting characters were also well developed and bought to life, and played their parts beautifully. Anyone familiar with the author's work will probably know what to expect and she doesn't let you down. I loved it, pulled through each chapter kicking and screaming, wanting more, start to finish!

Upholds the DK Name

I own multiple DK books and multiple volumes about the history of fashion. This book follows DK's tradition of gorgeous, informative coffee table books, as well as offering new information to someone with an amateur interest in historical dress. (For some context, here are some of the fashion books I already own: Taschen's Fashion, John Peacock's The Chronicle of Western Costume, and John Peacock's 20th Century Fashion.)

The chapters focus on eras, and within those, the individual page spreads focus on specific topics (suits, sportswear, silhouettes, etc.) with multiple pictures of outfits on each page in a timeline format. DK uses this format to trace different trends, so sometimes there are several spreads that cover the same decade. The book differs from Taschen's and Peacock's books in that it has much more explanatory text and a greater variety of pictures: full costume photos, detail photos, period illustrations from advertisements and fashion plates, and examples from fine art.

This tome covers men's and women's fashion from King Tut to Kate Middleton, and mostly focuses on Western costume. If you're an expert on the history of fashion, this may end up being little more than a book of pretty pictures for you (and pretty pictures they are!). If you have a hobbyist's interest, then this book has a lot to offer. Either way this book definitely lays out information in a way that cannot be found anywhere else.

Pretty Pics, But Not Much Else

Okay; I am a professor of costume history, so I admit I came to this book with something of a finicky eye. That understood, I was a bit shocked at how sort of 'lazy' (for wont of a better word) the writing was here. For example, Medieval hennins (those high headdresses) were not described as such, but instead, simply pointed out as 'tall headdresses'. 'Gigot sleeves' of the 1830s are described as 'puffed sleeves', and only one Egyptian headdress is given its correct name (the 'nemis'); everything else is just described as 'a headdress' (when each headdress had its own name and symbolism).

Further to this, there is absolutely no analysis as to the 'why' of anything. WHY did Neo-Classicism happen? WHY did silhouette change between the 1400s and 1500s. Basically, it's just a book with pictures of clothing that is grouped together intelligently, yet seems to exhibit no real research or academic knowledge of Costume History.

HOWEVER...

Out of all of the Costume History books I own (and I own them all, lemme tell ya!) this is by far away the most gorgeous in terms of presentation; costumes appear clearly and are arranged in a manner that makes sense to the eye. And it really does cover (almost) everything, although I was surprised that it only kicks off Ancient Egypt, ignoring Sumeria, Galettian culture of the Paleolithic Era (and all that shell beading), etc.

I use it as a required text for the images, as it really does give students an instant 'visual read' on, say, what men wore in the 1770s, etc. Yet this isn't an academic text. It offers no real 'discussion' as to any of the costume periods in hand; instead, what we are left with is pretty light cocktail banter.

A lovely coffee table book and general overview of the subject, but not really worth of Smithsonian publications in terms of academic or historical depth.

Somewhat Disappointingly Uneven

When I saw the book at A local bookstore while shopping with some friends, Igrabbed it immediately, and purchased it without question, as DK books are lavishly illustrated with clear color photos as a general rule.

The illustrations are worth the purchase price alone, as they are large enough for one to extrapolate from them the methods to make the garment yourself, and as an invaluable guide to the proper colors to use, as well as fabric choices to use.
It is a very handy guide to making one's own "garb" for renfaires, renactments, etc.

However, I DO have one problem with the book. It is decidedly uneven as to what periods are covered, with the weight of it(half)being devoted to the last two hundred years or so, and weighted towards the 20th century. Lopsided is one word to describe it. For a more balanced coverage, you still can't beat 20,000 years of Fashion, or the recent History of World Fashion.

But if you are craving color photos as a vital guide to making your own clothing-
this book would make an excellent addition to one's fashion history library.

The price is right, and worth grabbing asap.

Decent read (spoilers)

The good: Writing mechanics there. Few, if any, editing issues. The author writes erotica well- a bit vanilla for me but still hot.
The not so good: World building could be fleshed out more. The central relationship had basically no uncertainty since the Master was an all round good guy who wanted a boyfriend and the Slave was already in lust with him at the story's beginning. So no character growth. Could have been more with the premise.

Like I said, decent and uncomplicated story. Worth the money.

A little predictable but still a great book!

While being a hot erotica based book I saw this as mostly a social commentary on slavery. I've never thought very much about the slavery issue which we dealt with in our history and probably still goes on in various places in the world whether legal or illegal. The world building was very good being an alternate type universe where slavery still exists in the United States with both black and white people being slaves. We meet 19-year-old Danny who is a slave for the Tanner lumber company (we first meet this character in the previous book of the series). He has been a slave all of his life and is well trained to do what he is told and keep his place as a slave in society. The other main character is a free man named Paul who has been seeing Danny for a while and is attracted to him so much that he works out a plan to lease Danny to be his own slave while his actual intention is to have Danny be his lover and boyfriend. Paul is against slavery and all that it stands for and does his best to build a relationship with Danny based on mutual love and trust. He is challenged by society however and Danny's mindset that he is and always will be just a slave. It is interesting how the author blends elements of their relationship and compares them to a normal relationship between two free people. In a normal relationship there is always one member who is a little more dominant than the other. Sometimes these roles reverse depending on circumstances. Although he sees himself as Danny's boyfriend Paul has to act like he is Danny's master in order to get through to him in many instances. It is sort of a tough love type of thing at times. We wonder if Danny will ever be able to see Paul as his lover and not his master until Paul becomes more firm with him and Danny starts to respond. However as in all books there is a bad guy which causes them setbacks and frustrations and tests their new relationship. Another well-written heart wrenching story from this author in this series. This Book is highly recommended!

i love the plotline. There was tension, humour, intrigue. I liked it that our eager young main character was already happily lusting for his new master before he got rented out to him. The writing went smoothly, dialogue was fluid and sounded natural, and i cant wait for the third book. I havent been offered a king's riches in e-books in exchange for a review, this review is all me and the book has been paid for in the normal way. The author obviously knows my kind of reading.
